Fr. Tim’s Welcome Message
As Pastor of St. John Vianney I am pleased to welcome you to our parish website. Our parish was founded in 1980 and was guided under the faithful pastoral care of Fr. Jerry Machlik until 2010. Since that time I have had the blessed privilege of being the pastor of a parish that is centered in a deep love of Jesus Christ and His Church and strives to provide Christ-centered worship and service in a welcoming faith-filled environment.
When I first arrived at St John Vianney in 2010 I introduced myself by saying that there were three things you need to know about me; I love being a priest; I love my dog; and I love the Tigers. All those things are still true.
I was ordained in a priest on June 24, 1995 and served the parishes of St. Ephrem in Sterling Heights and St. Martin de Porres in Warren for two years each as Associate Pastor. In 1999 Cardinal Maida named me Pastor of St. Isaac Jogues in St. Clair Shores where I served for eleven years until 2010. St. Isaac Jogues was a wonderful assignment for me as I enjoyed the challenges and blessings of pastoring a parish with an elementary school. In June 2010 I was suprised to receive a call from Archbishop Vigneron asking me to take on the responsibilities of being the second pastor of St John Vianney. Serving St. John Vianney continues to be an extraordinary blessing for me. Since becoming Pastor here, my love for the priesthood has continued to grow. From 2014 through 2017 I was fortunate to be able to participate in a Spiritual Direction training program at Mundelein Seminary in Illinois. The program was run by the Institute for Priestly Formation based at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. That experience not only resulted in me becoming a certified Spiritual Director, but also has deeply enriched my life and ministry as a priest.
When I arrived here in 2010 I brought with me my faithful Labradoodle, Buddy. He was a lively dog who adjusted to his new home quickly. He was a great companion during my transition, but sadly he passed in the summer of 2014. In the fall of 2015, I was blessed by an even livelier Labradoodle named Molly. She has been a great companion to me. Both my dogs have been a reminder to me of God’s constant care in my life.
As for my love of the Tigers, it began at an early age as I spent countless evenings listening to Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey on my AM transistor radio. I developed a great love for the game of baseball and have been a diehard Tigers fan through all of the highs and lows.
In addition to the aforementioned, I grew up in a small family in Allen Park. After my father’s passing in 2014, my mother has remained in the dowriver area; my older sister and her family reside in San Antonio Texas, and my younger sister and her family live in Dearborn.
I truly love serving Jesus here at St. John Vianney and being a part of this wonderful community of faith.
Fr. Tim Mazur, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, and artist Mary Dudek smile as the crucifix Dudek sculpted for the Shelby Township parish is installed March 28. Dudek, a parishioner and recent art graduate from the University of Michigan, said she encountered some opposition to her design from university academics, but is proud of the support she’s received from fellow artists, advisers and the parish.
